Notes for Ivy Violet Lucy Davies
Ivy and Gloria worked in Napier. In 1919 Gloria married George John Perry Mmao, son of Vincenzo Almao and Isabella Ann Perry. Vincenzo (whose first wife died in 1893) married Isabella 6.9.1895 at Invercargillj their children George John Perry Almao (born 7.6.1897), Queeniece Isabell Perry Almao ( born 9.9.1902 - deceased 6.5.1986), Fay Almao (born 1904 -deceased 11.11.1922) and Josephine Vincent Almao (born 10.9.1906 ≠
deceased 8.5.1993).
Gloria and 'Dougie' (Geotge) did not live to-gether, although members of the family have memories of Gloria mentioning flowers and presents and a most gracious young man, but no practical help with money for the daily necessities. Gloria and Dougie had a son, Julian (born February 1920) 'Pat'. It appears (from an old diary of Dougies) that he visited Pat and Gloria, taking Pat out for the day quite frequently, buying small giftS and spending time with them.
Gloria and Dougie were divorced 21.8.1926, the decree nisi becoming absolute on 25.2.1927. .Dougie died on 12th April, 1971, aged 73.
Lucy looked after Pat while Gloria found work and later helped Eileen in her Salon in Sydney. Lucy, Martha and Pat lived on in Napier and in 1931 experienced the earthquake that caused such devastation. At the time of the 'quake' Martha was ill in bed, and Lucy had to lay across her mother to keep her from being thorwn on the floor. The double bed was repeatedly tossed from one side of the room to the other making matchwood of the furni≠ture. Pat, aged 11, ran home from school, finding it very d~fficult to keep his footing on the moving ground. Pat travel≠led to Australia to live with Gloria and Colin shortly afterwards. Martha, in ill health, visited relations in Dannevirk and died there on 9 April 1931 (aged 78) and is buried at Mangatera.
In the late 1930's Lucy married William Price, a retired farmer, and they lived in Hastings until his death when Lucy went to live
with Gloria. Lucy was living with Ivy in Oamaru when she passed away in 1958 (aged 82).
Pop met Nana in Dannevirke while Pop was working on the railway and she was working in a book stall at the railway station prior to Pop heading off to WW1. Ivy in 1921 married William Hayes (born 1886) at Napier; their children - Valerie born 1922; James born 1923; Zoe born 1924 and Whenua (Fen) born 1930. Ivy and William moved to a house in Petone and later the Summit, before moving to Oamaru.
Ivy and William were still living in Oamaru when William passed away in 1965. Ivy married Rowl Prattley in 1968 and sadly lost him in 1969. In 1972 Ivy married Ivan Chalmers who died in 1982. Ivy travelled and spent time with the family, living with Fen for some time. Ivy was staying at Selwyn Park (and still enjoying a lively game of cards) when she passed away on 22nd September 1995 (aged 96).
